Call for evidence: : EQUAL’s response to the increase in police power through the Coronavirus Act 2020

As a result of the Coronavirus outbreak the UK government introduced the Coronavirus Act 2020 which allows police officer’s to stop and question members of the public beyond the powers available under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, move crowds from public spaces, award fines and detain those whom they believe have Coronavirus and have failed to isolate themselves.

EQUAL is keen to hear from members of the public (particularly those from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups who are disproportionately policed) who have had encounters with the police during the Coronavirus outbreak in the UK.

If you have any evidence related to the Coronavirus Act 2020 and its impact on policing that you would like us to consider in any potential EQUAL government response, please e-mail before 15 June 2020.
